A friend of mine posted this yesterday on a private group that I feel very privileged to be a part of.
“... As business owners we need to look after ourselves and deal with stresses in certain ways... Get enough sleep, good nutrition and exercise…” ~ Mr X
He gets it.
When life gets a little busy, the things we need most are often the first to be sacrificed - things like sleep, good nutrition and exercise… Your health, in other words…
People struggling to maintain a healthy lifestyle [read: their actual f***ing health!] often maintain the perspective of “I want to do it, but I’m not willing to sacrifice anything for it; not time, money, TV, alcohol, none of it...”
This is fair enough I suppose… Make your own choices.
What’s cool about Mr X, though, is he realises that it’s very difficult to be successful in any area of life if you choose to sleep poorly, eat terrible food, drink stacks of booze, and just generally look, feel and perform like s***...
Your health isn’t a separate part of your life - it is your life... There is no separation, and you're either willing to invest in your health, or you aren't.
"The three most significant predictors of how long you're going to live are... Leg strength, VO2 max and how much muscle mass you have..." ~ Dr. Andy Galpin
You can’t separate health [read: quality and duration of life] from your messy weekend activities, long work hours, and poor food choices, the same way you can’t separate health from your movement practice, reasonable hours and sound nutrition... The idea that you can separate them is both terrible logic and a short cut to failure.
Above: the sickness - wellness - fitness continuum: everything that can be measured about health conforms to this continuum... The fitter you are the healthier you are, in other words...
Your health - your very quality of life - is with you 24/7 until one day it isn’t… And with the NHS on the rocks, that is a very bad place to be…
"I've been training at Crossfit Blackbrook for just a few months, and already it has had such a positive impact. Not only in terms of my strength and fitness (which has come on in leaps and bounds), but in my general sense of wellbeing…” ~ Lauren, 40, mother and legend...
