Phenomenal Performance Hacks…

I recently had a blog request for my top ten performance hacks.

You're only getting one.

Ten would mean far too much typing, and if I’m honest, people place no value on the things they get for free...

If you want hacks for specific things [breathing, maximal strength, fat loss, etc] come find me.

Baking soda can be used to buffer lactic acid…

You’ve all felt the effects of the prowler - something we use to safely increase your lactate threshold… A higher lactate threshold allows you to work at a higher intensity for longer - very beneficial for the Forging Elite Fitness crowd…

During high intensity training we get a buildup of lactic acid, leading to muscle fatigue, cramps and eventually nausea and vomiting… Lovely… By ingesting baking soda [aka sodium bicarbonate] you help maintain blood pH by decreasing lactic acid build-up during anaerobic exercise. In other words, the alkaline soda helps neutralize the acid that accumulates during high intensity training, resulting in greater power output and endurance.

Try this:
- Max distance prowler sprint in 75 seconds
- Next week, drink "the special concoction" described below 1 hour before training
- Retest prowler sprint
- Marvel at the difference

The special concoction:
- Mix half a teaspoon of baking soda with two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar
- Wait for it to stop fizzing
- Choke it back
- Job done
